Poetry courses
|
 |
Many community and adult learning centres run courses
on the appreciation and writing of poetry, which at the
very least provide opportunities to enlarge the circle of
friends and interests. Community centres themselves are
usually the best sources of information, or writing magazines
like mslexia.
Internet sources can be found with specific enquiries of
the search engines, but the Poetry
Kit and the Poetry
Society attempt to cover the UK scene, plus some of
Europe and America, while the ever-useful about
site list courses, conferences and workshops in the US.
Poetry
International Rotterdam has a European and international
coverage.

Self education |
 |
Much in the arts practice or appreciation
is self-taught, and the internet now provides abundant material.
Specific enquiries are answered at Allexperts.
Practitioners will find notes and further resources at Poetry
Magic, and these help sheets are supplemented by extensive
resources in the downloadable e-book. Online poetry courses
(classes or workshops) are listed at Poetrykit,
Shawguides
and as shown in the LH panel. Once a certain level has been
reached, The New Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics
(1993) is practically indispensable. Books listed in its sections,
or reviewed by sites under Book News, can be borrowed
through the interlibrary loan system. |

| If
you want the convenience of reading poetry and other literature
through a hand-held device, then consider a portable ebook
reader. Several have been released in recent years but the
best is probably Ectaco's jetBook, which lets you take advantage
of the hundreds of thousands of free downloadable texts. Visit
the Ectaco
site to learn more. |
